Definition
Initial Professional Development (IPD) is a period of development during which an individual acquires a level of competence necessary in order to operate as an autonomous professional. Professional bodies may recognise the successful completion of IPD by the award of chartered or similar status.
Introduction
The UK Initial Professional Development Forum comprises an ad-hoc group of organisations who have a common interest in the initial professional development of their staff.
Membership
Membership is predominantly in the technology, defence and aerospace sectors and currently includes:
Airbus, BAE Systems, Dstl, Helios, Marshall Aerospace, MoD, National Air Traffic Service, QinetiQ, Rolls-Royce and Thales
Activities
The UK IPD Forum meets twice a year in London. In addition to supporting staff working towards chartered status, related topics, such as recruitment and retention, are also covered. Members also network informally to discuss matters of mutual interest.
